Empowering Change Together: Join the Movement as a Galaxy Giver

Galaxy Givers Spotlight: First Light Home Care

“When people unite, real change happens.”

-Lori Henderson, Owner/Administrator

In a world that often feels disconnected, the importance of community support cannot be overstated. That’s why FAM’s Galaxy Givers, a community of dedicated donors and supporters committed to creating bigger and lasting impact for alumni of foster care, is grateful to partner with businesses like First Light Home Care of The Western Slope and the people driving the heart of those businesses, like owner Lori Henderson.

Lori and her team at First Light Home Care partnered with FAM this year, showing their support through event sponsorship, alumni gifts for Christmas, and more. Lori has a passion for community and shares her love by volunteering and supporting meaningful efforts across the valley. “Everyone needs a little help at times and if we can touch their lives in any kind of way, then we need to do so.” FAM and First Light Home Care are ‘neighbors’ both housed in the Independence Business Complex off of 25 1/2 Rd. in Grand Junction, CO, near Sam’s Club. A quick visit from FAM stopping in to say hello to our neighbors while sharing opportunities to sponsor our Alumni Starfish Tree before the holidays, led to ongoing and generous support, for which FAM is so grateful.

We asked Lori to share her experience as a Galaxy Giver and her personal connection to Foster Alumni Mentors. “My passion for helping others led me to Foster Alumni Mentors (FAM). With over 15 years in home health care, starting as a caregiver and CNA before owning my business, I’ve seen how critical support systems are. FAM’s mission to uplift foster alumni aligns with my belief that everyone deserves guidance, opportunity, and a sense of belonging. One experience that stands out is seeing a young lady who is now a very close friend of mine, move to many different foster homes. My best friend adopted her and she now has found stability and purpose with the help from programs like FAM. Watching them grow in confidence and independence proved how one act of support can change a life. The starfish story reminds me that even helping one person makes a lasting difference.”

“Becoming a Galaxy Giver is more than just making a donation; it’s about being part of a movement that transforms lives,” shares Lori. As a Galaxy Giver, monthly contributions provide the day-to-day support that FAM needs to continue making a difference one starfish, one alumni, at a time. By joining Galaxy Givers, you’re not only enriching the lives of foster alumni but also fueling hope and opportunity for those who need it most. “Businesses and individuals who join will see firsthand how their involvement brings hope and opportunity to those who need it most,” says Lori.

Equally vital is the work done by First Light Home Care, which offers compassionate care for seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. As Lori describes, “We are dedicated to providing exceptional home care services that empower individuals to live with dignity and independence.” Their commitment goes beyond basic care, fostering meaningful connections that ease the burdens of daily life, offering families peace of mind, and ensuring every client experiences care tailored to their needs. “Whether it’s personal care, companionship, or specialized support, we are committed to making a difference-one client at a time.”

Lori encourages individuals and businesses to join Galaxy Givers, “When people unite, real change happens. I’ve seen businesses and individuals come together to provide housing and job opportunities for foster alumni- something no one could have done alone. Every contribution strengthens the network of support, creating lasting impact.”

By joining Galaxy Givers, your monthly support will help FAM work toward our vision of creating a community where individuals who experience foster and kinship care are supported, prepared, and empowered.

“I hope FAM continues to expand, providing more resources, mentorship, and opportunities for foster alumni. With continued community support, we can ensure every young adult aging out of foster care has the tools to succeed.” ~Lori
